STORAGE. The 3.5-inch floppy disk emerged as the new standard, destined to replace the 5.25-inch floppy. The question is not whether users will shift to the latest, most efficient technology, but when.

At the same time, the prices of hard disk drives were falling as a result of oversupply. Once considered a luxury, hard disks are becoming a necessity. The rise of the hard disk is changing the role of the diskette. Once the primary medium for storing programs and data, the diskette is now more of a transitory vehicle for getting programs and files in and out of the hard disk and for backing up hard files.
