this is the funk! is an early “new funk” compilation from the mid 1980s, new york city. james white (aka james chance) stands out. the splat cats maxi single sounds like the ramones. dream death is thrash/death metal, mainly about, yes, death. and, two decades earlier, a second hand new york greenwich village purchase, one of my LP jewels: james brown, say it loud. acoustically horrible, but great cover. brown wrote the song in the aftermath of the killing of martin luther king in april 1968.
