britannica | athwart

this map is from the 1570 book by the brabantian scientist → abraham ortelius. his book Theatrvm orbis terrarvm is considered the first modern atlas. it contains brief texts in latin and extremely complex maps of all continents. only few regions such as the korean penisula are missing, but britannica, ireland and scotland are definitely there. in ortelius’ map of europe the british islands definitely belong to europe.
