as early as in 1985 i programmed a computer voice for the opening sound of my show on public radio. the programming was fun; and it took quite long on the CBM 64 (with a speech module, plugged into the extension port). seven years later i was working with a macintosh SE/30 and could create synthetic voices via software. this is an example from those early days of, well, IT dialogue:
